A tiny illustration of Maxie Langenberg

I work primarily with watercolor, gouache, and digital painting tools. My painting practice centers around landscape, natural form, and geological texture. Recently I have been enjoying painting built structures, especially dilapidated buildings where human presence and the natural world intersect.

Alongside my painting practice, I create comics that explore curiosity, memory, and the uncanny, often grounded in real events and personal experience. I enjoy blending storytelling with vibrant visuals and creating thought-provoking stories through my work. Recent projects include a science-fiction retelling of the true story of a Russian space station, and an illustrated original poem about encountering a ghost while unpacking boxes in an old basement.

My work has been published in multiple editions of Crest Literary Arts Magazine, featured in marketing and visual materials for a Chicago-based small business, and seen in a variety of design projects across my school community. Most recently, I wrote, designed, and illustrated a detailed guide to the geology of Mount Desert Island, Maine (available here).
